What Does it Involve?

Menopause Blood tests

These tests are a baseline assessment of your FSH, LH, Oestradiol, TSH and FT4. These blood tests will determine how much replacement oestrogen you need and if your thyroid gland is working normally.  Further blood tests (such a testosterone) can be added to the menopause blood tests but they will incur additional charges. Please clarify in advance to avoid an unexpected invoice.

A Transvaginal Pelvic Ultrasound

The ultrasound assesses the health of the womb and ovaries. This scan will check that the lining of the womb is healthy and will also test for womb and ovarian cancer. Measuring the thickness of the lining of the womb is important to exclude cancer in the lining of the womb (endometrial cancer) and polyps. If you are concerned about ovarian cancer, you may be recommended to have an extra blood test called a CA125.

Three Months of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

Hormone Replacement Therapy is a treatment used to relieve menopausal symptoms. For women who have not had a hysterectomy, we recommend Oestragel, this is distributed as a topical and oral treatment.

Here for You at Every Stage

Perimenopause refers to the time of your life when your body is making the transition to the menopause. This can begin at different ages for different women, most start noticing signs such as irregular periods between mid 30s and mid 40s. During Perimenopause, your menstruation cycles may be longer or shorter than usual and you may start experiencing menstrual cycles without ovulation. This is due to the uneven oestrogen levels in your body during Perimenopause, you may also experience symptoms that can be linked to menopause such as mood changes, problems sleeping, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, and discomfort during sex. It’s worth noting that there are treatments available for Perimenopause, get in touch
if you have any questions.Once 12 months have passed without you menstruating, this is when Perimenopause is over, and menopause begins.

Menopause begins when you haven’t had a menstruation cycle for 12 months, and your ovaries stop producing oestrogen and progesterone. The menopause comes with a range of physical, emotional, and psychological symptoms such as:

  • Vaginal Atrophy
  • Urinary Incontinence
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Hot flashes
  • Disturbed sleeping pattern
  • Change to metabolism
  • Weight changes
  • Mood changes
  • Feelings of embarrassment
  • Fear of aging
  • A loss of confidence

Are you experiencing symptoms of menopause? Book a consultation with Alex today and take the first step back to feeling like yourself again.

Post-menopause occurs once your menstruation cycle has ceased for over a year, technically you’ve made it through the menopause but it’s possible that you’re still experiencing some symptoms. During this stage, the symptoms often subside, but they could continue for another 4-5 years, thankfully, they frequency and intensity of the symptoms reduce dramatically.

How to Know If You’re Going Through the Menopause?

It’s likely that you’re going through the menopause if you’re between the ages of 40-55, and haven’t menstruated for 12 months, you also would have experienced some of the symptoms mentioned above. Before this, you would have experienced menopause-like symptoms such as mood changes, hot flashes, a change to your sleeping pattern, and you would have experienced irregularities with your menstrual cycle such as longer or shorter periods. If you have any questions regarding your symptoms, please feel free to get in touch. Alternatively, you can find more information about the menopause on the NHS website.

When Should You Get Treatment for the Menopause?

No two women experience menopause in the same way. The menopause doesn’t discriminate, and it isn’t one size fits all, many of us tend to ignore symptoms rather than face them due to denial or embarrassment. Although menopausal symptoms are extremely normal, you should contact a menopause specialist for help if you experience any menopause like symptoms that disrupt you emotionally, physically, or mentally. If menopause has begun, then seeking treatment is the only way to ensure that you feel your best.
